The 8th September 2022 is a day that will live long in the memory for millions of people in the UK and beyond. Genuinely the end of an era – it was the day that Queen Elizabeth II passed away. For many Britons, it was the moment we lost the only monarch we had ever known. The realisation that ‘God Save the Queen’ will now become ‘God Save the King’ and the fact that the Queen’s head will, in time, disappear from our stamps, coins and bank notes is difficult to get our heads around. But the monarchy continues, of course, and the King’s Coronation is now just a matter of months away.

King’s Coronation – The official celebrations
The Coronation Weekend will take place between Saturday the 6th and the 8th of May. The service itself will take place at Westminster Abbey on the Saturday, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The service is set to reflect the changing role of the monarch in today’s society, while at the same time it will be steeped in pageantry and tradition. There is a full itinerary of official celebrations planned for the weekend.
However, people up and down the country will be holding their own celebratory events all over the weekend.
How about a King’s Coronation Street Party?
Your local council may well be holding a large public event to celebrate the coronation, but many people may also be interested in throwing their own private street party. This type of event is relatively easy to organise. Public liability insurance is not normally required. However, it’s always best to check with your local council. If no alcohol is to be sold at the event, you don’t normally need a music licence.
A party needs music!
There’s no doubt that every party needs some music. The King’s Coronation is no different. Of course, you could play safe – a carefully curated Spotify playlist could be just the ticket. But, is there really any substitute for live music?
